NCMA Micromurals
OVERVIEW
Requirement: Create buzz around the North Carolina Museum of Arts “Rolling Sculpture: Art Deco Cars from the 1930s and ’40s”
TASK
Partnering with Myriad Media I helped concept and create 17 laser etched micromurals for the North Carolina Museum of Art. These were placed around the city to promote their new Art Deco car show.
EXECUTION
The luxurious, one-of-a-kind cars and motorcycles of Rolling Sculpture: Art Deco Cars from the 1930s and ’40s are large in scale and big on style. However, the public art campaign it inspired around downtown Raleigh took the opposite approach: The “micromurals”—only 4 x 10 inches and made from laser-etched metal from local business Mort’s Trophy Shop—feature illustrated versions of the 17 cars and motorcycles in the exhibition and were conceived and illustrated by local artist Shane Smith.
